Scott calls for repeat of Paris performance

Monday 26 October 2020 18:19

Scott McTominay says following up last week’s Champions League win in Paris with three points against RB Leipzig would be ‘massive’.

The Scotland international was speaking on Monday’s episode of United Daily, ahead of our first-ever meeting with the club from eastern Germany.

Like the Reds, Leipzig won their opening game – with a 2-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir at the Red Bull Arena – and McTominay is keen for performance levels not to drop as the sides compete for the early advantage in Group H.

“With a big win on Wednesday, it would be massive for everybody and the confidence that we are getting each week, and match by match, it would be really beneficial for the squad,” Scott said.

“There's no point going away to Paris, when it is a big game and the whole world is watching, and doing really well, and then not playing as well or doing all the right things that got you the win in Paris at home against Leipzig.”

The Germans currently sit top of the Bundesliga and have yet to be beaten in the 2020/21 season.

McTominay acknowledges the quality of last season’s Champions League semi-finalists and is prepared for another tricky test to close out a month which has already seen us go up against Tottenham, Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

“We know the intensity that they will bring,” McTominay added.

“They are a terrific team, I watched them a lot last year with a lot of the coaches in the Champions League games that they played.

“They're a very, very intense team with a good coach and good players as well, so it is not going to be an easy game at all.”
