Reds quartet up for December awards

Friday 08 January 2021 12:00

December 2020 was a positive month for Manchester United in the Premier League, with the Reds rising to second in the table by the end of the year.

Wins over West Ham, Sheffield United, Leeds and Wolves, combined with useful draws against Manchester City and Leicester, helped provide a solid platform for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side to build on in 2021, and we started the new year with a home win over Aston Villa last Friday.

It should, therefore, come as no surprise that there is plenty of Reds representation in the nominations for the Premier League's official awards for December.

Collecting over half of the votes cast, there was only going to be one winner of 2020's final award.

United's own Player of the Month, Bruno Fernandes, who claimed the league's November award, to make it three already in the English top-flight, is once again included in the poll, after another stellar calendar month where he racked up three goals and four assists.

He's joined in the reckoning by Marcus Rashford, whose late winner against Wolves at Old Trafford was his fifth top-flight goal of the month - like his team-mate, Rashford is also a previous winner of the accolade, having claimed it in January 2019.

The pair are up against Aston Villa's Anwar El Ghazi and Emiliano Martinez, Ben Mee (Burnley), John Stones (Manchester City), Tomas Soucek (West Ham) and Mohamed Salah, of Liverpool.

You can vote for Marcus or Bruno here.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer is in contention for the Manager of the Month prize, after masterminding an unbeaten December.

The Norwegian, who won the gong in January 2019 after a similarly good run during his caretaker spell in charge, is up against Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, Aston Villa's Dean Smith and Sean Dyche, manager of Burnley.
