Ten Hag's team news for Sheriff game

Wednesday 26 October 2022 12:28

Erik ten Hag could have more options at his disposal - including two in defence - when Manchester United face Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford this Thursday evening.

As well as confirming Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the squad, after being omitted for Saturday's draw for Chelsea, the United manager provided another positive update on recent absentees Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

"They are all back in training," said Ten Hag, during his pre-match press conference at Carrington.

"Donny, Harry and Aaron are all in training for preparation for tomorrow's game."

When pressed on whether that trio could be involved against Sheriff, the manager replied: "We will assess after training. Together with the medical [staff], I will take the decision."

If he's cleared to play, Maguire could return in place of Raphael Varane, who has been ruled out for the remaining pre-World Cup fixtures.

Victor Lindelof is another option, having come on as a substitute for the injured Frenchman in the final half-hour at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, van de Beek is waiting to make only his fourth competitive appearance under Ten Hag at United, although he racked up plenty of games in midfield for the manager during their time together at Ajax.

Wan-Bissaka has been involved in just one game this term and that was for the final few minutes of August's impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool. In his absence, Diogo Dalot has held down the right-back spot.

Thursday's game comes too soon for Anthony Martial, but the French striker is getting closer to being available again.

In our exclusive pre-match interview to be shown tomorrow, Ten Hag told us: "He's improving. He's back on the [training] pitch, not in the group so we have to wait for that step. But hopefully he's back [soon]."
