Transfer window news: Amad loaned to Rangers

Manchester United youngster Amad has completed a loan move to Scottish champions Rangers until the end of the season.

The Ivory Coast international joined the Reds from Atalanta in January 2021 and is viewed as one of the most talented young wingers on the European scene.

So far, Amad has made nine first-team appearances for United and he memorably scored a superb goal against Italian giants AC Milan in the Europa League.

“I am delighted to join Rangers until the end of the season,” says Amad. “It is fantastic for me at this stage of my career to have the opportunity to come to such a big club that is challenging on a number of fronts and will give me some excellent opportunities to test myself in many environments. I look forward to training with my team-mates for the first-time tomorrow and to meeting the fans for the first time at Ross County on Saturday.”

The 19-year-old almost joined Feyenoord on loan last summer until an injury sustained in training stopped that move, but he now has a chance to shine under boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman became the Rangers manager earlier this season following a previous spell as a player at Ibrox, winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup, while making 117 appearances and scoring 22 goals.

Van Bronckhorst said: “I am really pleased to add Amad to our squad for the rest of the season. He is a player who I have been aware of for some time, and when the opportunity to sign him came up, we very keen to make it happen. He will add a lot to our squad and provide even more competition for the players in the forward areas.”

Amad most recently appeared for United in the Champions League draw against Young Boys back in December and the Ivorian prospect now hopes to enhance his education at Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers are currently top of the Scottish Premiership table after 22 matches played, with a four-point lead over their great rivals Celtic. It is believed Amad will provide cover for Ianis Hagi after his recent injury ruled him out for the season.
Rangers' next fixture is away to Ross County on Saturday and, following that, it is the high profile, always-anticipated derby at Celtic Park next Wednesday evening.

Looking further ahead, van Bronckhorst’s team are still competing in the Scottish Cup and have a blockbuster Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund to look forward to.

Good luck for the rest of the season, Amad, we’re all behind you.
