United Women win LMA award for win at Arsenal

Friday 25 November 2022 16:00

Manchester United Women’s 3-2 win over Arsenal has been voted as the Utilita Performance of the Week by the League Managers Association.

A panel consisting of LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Chris Hughton, Rachel Yankey, Les Ferdinand, Clare Tomlinson, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry determined that the accolade would be awarded to Marc Skinner and co following the victory.

The weekly prize takes into account results from across the Premier League, EFL, WSL and the FA Women’s Championship.

Ella Toone’s first-half strike saw the Reds take a deserved lead into the break in front of more than 40,000 fans at the Emirates Stadium, but the home side responded and turned the game around to lead 2-1.

But Skinner’s side didn’t give up and, with just over five minutes of normal time remaining, Millie Turner headed in Katie Zelem’s free-kick to level the scores once more.

Alessia Russo then gave our travelling fans and all Reds a moment to remember, nodding in an injury-time winner to ensure United would claim all three points.
The result saw us bounce back from a first league defeat of the season, against Chelsea in the previous game, and end Arsenal’s unbeaten run across all competitions that had stretched back to April.

It also took us level on points with the Gunners at the top end of the table, with only Chelsea ahead of both clubs by three points, having played a game more.
