Injury update ahead of Reading clash

Sunday 13 December 2020 12:00

Manchester United Women will be without six first-team members for the trip to the Madejski Stadium on Sunday, when we take on Reading.

Christen Press and Jess Sigsworth missed last weekend’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa and are also unavailable for our meeting with the Royals.

They join long-term absentees Martha Harris and Alessia Russo on the sidelines, while Lauren James is also absent through injury.

Emily Ramsey picked up a problem in training during the week and is unavailable for Sunday’s game, meaning the Reds have recalled Fran Bentley from her loan spell with Blackburn Rovers. She occupies a place on the bench at the Madejski Stadium.

Supporters could be allowed into games soon, should the UK Government's tier categories be altered.

Casey Stoney has named a strong XI for the encounter with Reading. Mary Earps - who is the guest speaker on Monday’s UTD Podcast - starts between the sticks.

Ahead of her, it’s the same back four who started against Villa, with Ona Batlle, Amy Turner, Millie Turner and Kirsty Smith making up the defence.

In midfield, Casey has also stuck with the side that performed so well at Villa last week. That means it’s Hayley Ladd and Jackie Groenen in the centre of the park, with Tobin Heath, Ella Toone and Leah Galton in the more advanced areas.

The one change from last week sees Lauren James replaced in the XI by Kirsty Hanson, who missed the victory over Villa.

STARTING XI: Earps; Batlle, A.Turner M.Turner, Smith; Ladd, Groenen; Heath, Toone, Galton; Hanson.

SUBSTITUTES: Bentley, McManus, Okvist, Zelem, Fuso, Staniforth, Ross.
