The extended highlights of United Women's clash with Reading are sure to keep you entertained...

Winger Kirsty Hanson played 90 minutes and made her Aston Villa debut as the Midlands side kicked off the new WSL season with an afternoon to remember against Manchester City.

The Villans came out on top in a seven-goal thriller, winning 4-3 at Villa Park.

After the match, Hanson tweeted: “Absolutely buzzing!! What a win, brilliant performance from everyone, hope you enjoyed that Villa fans! Great to meet you all.”

Hanson wasn’t the only United player to make a bow for a new club on the opening weekend of the new WSL season, as young Red Carrie Jones featured for Leicester City for the first time.

The 19-year-old played 80 minutes for the Foxes as they were edged out by Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Goalkeeper Emily Ramsey was an unused substitute in Everton’s 1-0 loss to West Ham and awaits her first competitive outing for the Toffees.

There was also a debut in Germany as forward Ivana Ferreira Fuso played for new club Bayer Leverkusen for the first time in the league.

Having made her club debut in the second round of the DFB Pokal last weekend, the Brazil international played 83 minutes as her side triumphed 1-0 over Duisburg on the opening weekend of the new campaign.

In the FA Women’s Championship, young United duo Niamh Murphy and Chloe Williams both played 58 minutes as Blackburn Rovers visited Durham in their third game of the term.

The Reds pair had previously featured in matches against Bristol City and Sheffield United before getting another 58 minutes of experience in the second tier during Sunday’s 3-1 loss in the north east.

Elsewhere in the Championship, defender Tara Bourne wasn’t involved as her loan club Birmingham City were beaten 3-0 at Charlton Athletic.

The young Red had previously helped the Blues to keep clean sheets in their opening two fixtures of the 2022/23 campaign versus Lewes and Sunderland.
