'Tooney's tours are banter, Zelem's are organised!'

England's Lionesses overcame Colombia at the weekend to reach the semi-finals of the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Standing in the way? Co-hosts Australia, led by PFA Women's Footballer of the Year and Chelsea striker Sam Kerr.

It's been quite the ride for the Lionesses so far, with United's Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Katie Zelem all playing their part.

Following the narrow victory over their South American opponents, Toone and Zelem both sat down for their own respective Lioness Diaries, which were posted on social media throughout the last week.

The pair discussed their experience Down Under so far, discussing the differences between 'Tooney's tours' and 'Zel's tours,' which have become a topic of much debate and humour within the England camp.

Both Mary and Ella played a vital part as England booked their place in the semi-final.

"Zel's tours, I've been on three now," said Toone. "I've been on one on the Sunshine Coast, one in Brisbane and one in Sydney. She's not let us down, she's been on it, to be fair.

"There's no competition between Tooney's tours and Zel's tours. I'm going on Zel's tour any day of the week because she's so organised. I haven't had to plan a thing. I've turned up and she's got it all on her maps. Location A to B to C to D. We see everything.

"You'd have the bants if you were on mine but I wouldn't have a clue where we are going or what we are doing. If you [want to be] organised and see everything in Sydney in an hour, then I'd book on Zel's."

Zelem responded to these claims in her respective diary episode.

"I would say organised for me and banter for Tooney is definitely right," she said. "[But] I think my tours still involve banter. Tooney's on most of them so I guess you get the best of both worlds.

"I will say, if you went on a Tooney tour, you wouldn't see anything. You'd just about make it outside the hotel so I guess we make a good pair in that respect."

As well as laughing at this topic, Toone expressed her pride in the Lionesses reaching the semi-finals, praising the way her team-mates overcame the fierce Colombian support.

"[It was] an amazing game," she added. "The Colombian fans were there, loud and proud.

"[It] definitely felt like an away game for us but we didn't let that faze use at all. They made it difficult for us in the last 10 minutes but we got over the line and found a way to win."

The Lionesses take on the Matildas at Stadium Australia on Wednesday 16 August (11:00 BST). Follow updates on ManUtd.com and in the United App.
