Ronaldo and Varane added to East Stand banner

Before the opening fixture of Manchester United's 2021/22 season, against Leeds United, we unveiled a striking new banner on the East Stand forecourt.

Featuring several of the Reds' star players, it reads 'Here we belong', in an attempt to sum up the euphoria around the return of fans to Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford all featured prominently in the collage-style display of players, alongside Manchester United Women stars like Jackie Groenen.

But, as you may have heard, there's been a few bits of big news from the Theatre of Dreams in the last couple of weeks.

First, we announced the completed transfer of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Then we smashed Leeds 5-1 in that much-anticipated opening fixture.

But the biggest, most surprising news of all followed just a few days before the closure of the summer transfer window: the homecoming, after long 12 years, of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United.

And once that seismic news has hit... well, we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to refresh the 'Here We Belong' banner to feature our prodigal son.
The new layout retains the same feel as the first incarnation, but now Ronaldo is right in the mix with Fernandes and Greenwood.

As is new boy Varane – who played with Ronaldo for several silverware-laden years at Real Madrid and started his United career so promisingly in our 1-0 victory away at Wolves.

There's also a place for new MU Women boss Marc Skinner, who kicked off his tenure with a 2-0 success over Reading Women at Leigh Sports Village last Friday.
Supporters will be able to feast their eyes on the updated East Stand forecourt visage on Saturday, when we host our second home game of the season, against Newcastle United.

It promises to be a special day, with a capacity crowd expected for only the second time since the COVID-19 pandemic forced matches behind closed doors in March 2020.

Could Ronaldo make his 293rd United appearance, over a decade after his 292nd? What might happen on his so-called 'second debut'? We cannot wait to find out!

The game against the Magpies kicks off at 15:00 BST and you'll be able to follow all the action via our Official App and across Man Utd.com.
