Skinner up for October award

Marc Skinner has been nominated for the Barclays WSL Manager of the Month award for the second successive month, as Manchester United Women sit top of the table with five wins from five games.

Following United’s scintillating start to the season, Skinner was nominated for September’s accolade but was pipped by Aston Villa’s Carla Ward.

After further WSL wins against Brighton, Leicester City and Everton, the Reds’ head coach is up for the monthly award again.

United dispatched of the Seagulls on 16 October, when an Ella Toone double and goals from Adriana Leon and Player of the Month nominee Leah Galton sealed an emphatic 4-0 victory at Leigh Sports Village.

The Reds followed this up with a hard-fought win away to Leicester, at the King Power Stadium, with Nikita Parris’s first-half header clinching all three points.

And at the end of the month, Skinner’s side put in a commanding display away to Everton, with goals from Parris, Hayley Ladd and Galton proving pivotal.

United and Arsenal remain the only two unbeaten sides in the league so far, with Skinner’s side ahead on goal difference. The Reds are set to visit the Gunners on Saturday 19 November, in a mouth-watering fixture at the Emirates Stadium. Tickets for that game are available here.

Marc has been nominated for the October award alongside the Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall, Chelsea’s Denise Reddy and Manchester City’s Gareth Taylor.

Voting for is now open for supporters, and will close at 10:00 GMT on Monday 7 November. The winner will be announced on Thursday 10 November.

All supporters can buy tickets for United Women's home WSL matches against reigning champions Chelsea - at Leigh Sports Village thist Sunday evening, 6 November - and Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday 3 December.

The latter will be the first time Marc Skinner's side have played at the Theatre of Dreams since last March, when England Lionesses star Alessia Russo netted twice in a thrilling 3-1 win over Everton and was joined on the scoresheet by captain Katie Zelem.
