Skinner: Leigh Sports Village is our fortress

Manchester United Women boss Marc Skinner believes our fans will be key in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton.

The Reds are preparing to welcome the Seagulls to Leigh Sports Village for a 17:15 BST kick-off, and Skinner believes our supporters will have their part to play at our ‘fortress’.

“It could be a cliche to talk about home advantage, but it really is a home advantage for us,” he told club media.

“Our fans make it a cauldron for everybody that comes to play us there and that’s why our results are so good.

Skinner: We perform well because of our fans

United Women boss Marc Skinner believes our fans will give his players the 'energy' to reach the FA Cup final...

“We perform because of the energy that we get from our fans.”

The boss believes they have contributed to making LSV a fortress; the Reds have lost just one game at home in all competitions during the current campaign.

“I hope we can continue to bring that energy because then I think everyone coming into our home fortress finds it very, very difficult to play.”
The boss has called on his players to display the energy of a Manchester United side in our bid to reach Wembley for the first-ever time.

“We’d love to make the final, but there are no guarantees,” Marc continued.

“We have to perform with aggression in front of our home fans, and [show] the energy that is expected of us that we set ourselves [as a] Manchester United team.”
Our crucial clash with Brighton on Saturday is just the tip of the iceberg of a really important run-in for the Reds, who are still very much in the hunt for the Women’s Super League title and a spot in the Champions League next season.

“We expect that in every game from now to the end of the season, we will not take our foot off the gas in any game,” he said.

“We will respect the opponent as we always do, but I really want to change and develop our mentality around these games.
The Reds have a crucial final phase of the season, as we chase FA Cup and WSL glory.
“It’s about what we can do to the opponent and how hard we can work and all the undercurrents of the game: work rate, ethic, commitment to tackles, commitment to winning first and second balls.

“If we al all of these together, then we foresee success for many years to come.

“We’ve achieved nothing and we need to make sure that we earn everything.”
