Galton: We just need to play our football

Manchester United Women are on the brink of Wembley with an FA Cup semi-final against Brighton coming up this weekend – and Leah Galton thinks we have a good shot of getting there if we just ‘play our football.’

Our no.11 wants the Reds to continue what we’ve been doing so far this season when we welcome the Seagulls to Leigh Sports Village on Saturday.

“For us, it’s just about doing what we’ve been doing,” she told club media. “Keeping it cool and make sure we’re not panicking if we’ve not scored in the first 15 or 20 minutes.

“Goals come and chances come, so we just need to play our football and I think we’ll be okay.”

Galton: Getting to Wembley would be unbelievable

Leah Galton is spurred on by the prospect of reaching Wembley ahead of our Women's FA Cup semi-final v Brighton...

Marc Skinner’s side played the south-coast outfit prior to the international break and ran out 4-0 winners, with Galton on the scoresheet twice.

But for Leah, it doesn’t help that we’ve played these games so close together, adding: “We’ve played them so they kind of know how we play, we know how they play, so it could be a bit of a stalemate.

“But I think we just have to create the opportunities and chances that we didn’t make in the first game and take them when we do.”
Making the semi-final itself has already been written into the history of our women’s team, having never reached this stage of the competition since reforming in 2018, but reaching Wembley would be nothing short of ‘unbelievable’ for Leah.

“I did a bit of a bucket list of things I haven’t done before and one of them is to get to a final and play at Wembley,” she told us.

“It would be unbelievable… I think it’d be something I’d never forget, and to get all my family down there and my friends and just make it something that they would remember.”
