Marc Skinner

Skinner: Our quality showed through in the end

Manchester United are into the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup for the very first time, after beating Lewes 3-1 on Sunday.

A first-half own goal from Rhian Cleverly opened the scoring for United, before strikes from Vilde Boe Risa and Nikita Parris after the break, either side of Emily Kraft getting one back for the hosts.

Speaking after the game, Marc Skinner was pleased to see his side advance into the last four, following a performance that he believes could have been stronger.

“It’s huge [to be in the semi-finals for the first time]. The result was more important today because I don’t think we played particularly well," Marc explained to MUTV, while stood pitchside after the final whistle.

Skinner: It was a proper cup tie

Marc Skinner was pleased to see his United Women side get the better of Lewes, despite not being at our best...

“Lewes, credit to them, made it very difficult. We are a team that wants to play football but at time, you have to mix it [up].

“They added great physicality to the game, the [Lewes] fans were excellent and really drove their team forward.

“It was a real, proper cup tie. It’s something I’m happy and privileged we’ve been a part of. We take the result and we’re through to the semi-finals.

“Our quality was always going to show through in the end. The reality is it could have been more comfortable, and should have been, but that’s [down] to us taking the moments, that’s got to be us.”

Sunday marked a special occasion for January arrival Lisa Naalsund, who made her debut for the club. Unfortunately however, the midfielder was forced off 25 minutes in, through injury – fellow Norwegian Maria Thorisdottir followed suit later on in the game.

““We’ll assess them both tomorrow [Monday] and in the early stage of the week, see how they are, and after that we will plan accordingly," the boss told us.

“This club is fantastic for the support around players who may or may not be injured – but we’ll wait and see, and update accordingly.”
