Solskjaer: The boys deserved it
Ole Gunnar Solskajer hailed his Manchester United players, as the Reds fought heroically to secure a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Ole's men were at our ruthless best in the first half, racing into a two-goal lead courtesy of a Marcus Rashford spot-kick and a near-post effort from Anthony Martial. However after the break, United showed brilliant defensive capabilities, with bodies laid on the line to keep our local rivals at bay.
Nicolas Otamendi pulled one back for the visitors with five minutes of regulation time to spare, but it ultimately proved to be futile as Ole's Reds emerged victorious and secured the precious bragging rights.
Speaking to MUTV and Sky Sports after the match, the boss reacted to the result, the performance of our three summer arrivals and even how he plans to celebrate today's win.
WE COULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF SIGHT
"We were fantastic. At the start of the game we were exceptional. We were attacking every time we got the ball and it looked like we could carve them open every time. We could have, should have been three, four, five up and that's testament to the boys, because they played so well.
"It's so hard to play against them, and their players were coming from everywhere, every angle and the boys defended so well."
THE PLAYERS DESERVE THIS RESULT
"We were brilliant in the first half. There was some great, quick attacking football, and we kept the ball well at times as well. It wasn't just a direct ball or a long ball. It was on the floor, quick transitions and I'm so pleased for the boys. They deserve it. When you've got 24 hours less recovery, both before the Tottenham game and today, it's hard, and we got tired. We became tired towards the end, but they dug in. The mentality is strong."
NO ONE COULD GET PAST WAN-BISSAKA
"Today is why we have signed these three players. They fit perfectly into the way I want to play football and how the club wants to play. They're humble lads, hard working, great values. Aaron, he's playing against Sterling out there, Mahrez out there, De Bruyne out there and they just couldn't get past him."

A PERFORMANCE IN MY MOULD
"It's a Man United performance in my mould. I love boys going forward. Of course there were times today where we didn't keep the ball as well as we could have. But we're improving all the time and the boys are getting experiences to remember. They're young boys. Aaron today was again fantastic, Fred was unbelievable and our keeper is back to his best."
WE COULD HAVE SCORED EVERY TIME WE WENT FORWARD
"The preparation the coaching team does is fantastic and the boys executed their plan to perfection and their keeper made some decent saves. We created so many chances. You can talk about our defending today, but you have to say that our attacking play especially in the first half was absolutely fantastic. Every time we had the ball I felt that we could score."
THIS RESULT IS UP THERE WITH PSG
"We painted the city red. Tonight we will have to enjoy ourselves. There'll be a couple glasses of red wine for me tonight.
"This result is up there with PSG, definitely, and we're so happy for the supporters as well. Just go out in town and enjoy yourself!"
