Rashford breaks a United record

Saturday 11 November 2023 14:15

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will become the youngest player to reach 250 Premier League appearances for the Reds, when stepping out at Old Trafford to face Luton Town.

Our no.10 achieved the feat just 11 days after his 26th birthday, taking the record from fellow left-sided club legend, Ryan Giggs.

The former Wales international currently holds the record for the most appearances in a United shirt, but Rashford has beat him to this milestone, even if it is worth pointing out that Giggsy racked up numerous appearances in the old Division One, before the inception of the Premier League.

A product of the Manchester United Academy, Rashford made his Premier League debut back in 2016 in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at home. Aged just 18, he announced himself with two goals on that day, on the back of a debut brace versus Midtjylland in the Europa League, and has established himself as a key figure in the Reds' starting line-ups ever since.

Throughout that time, the Reds have seen Rashford turn out across the front and top scored last term with 30 goals in all competitions.

Reaching this milestone quicker than any player at Old Trafford, since the inception of the division in 1992, shows just how strong an impact the Manchester-born forward has had in M16 since that debut against Arsenal, notching a total of 77 league goals in total.

The England international will be looking to add to that total this afternoon against Luton Town, to celebrate the achievement in style, to recover from the red card he received at FC Copenhagen in midweek. He looks poised to start on the right, with Alejandro Garnacho on the left-hand side of the attack.

Congratulations Marcus!
