How to follow Everton v United Women

Tuesday 14 December 2021 13:02

Manchester United Women will be looking to secure qualification for the knock-out stage of the Continental Tyres League Cup when we make the trip to Everton on Wednesday evening.

The Toffees provide the opposition for the final game of our Group B campaign, with the Reds firmly focused on securing a spot in the competition’s last eight after the midweek contest.

Marc Skinner’s side go into the encounter occupying second spot in the group, knowing that we will need to leapfrog leaders Manchester City to automatically qualify in top spot.

United currently lead the way as the potential runners-up with the most points across the five groups however, and with another place in the next round going to the team with the most points in this regard, it means that a victory in normal time on Merseyside will definitely secure our progression in one way or another.

To find out how that all works out, the current state of play in the group and all the permutations are included in our preview below, along with how you can follow the match and the latest team news…

HOW TO FOLLOW

If you’re not planning on making the trip over to Merseyside however, you can watch the match on MUTV, with live coverage getting under way from 18:45 GMT.

TEAM NEWS

The Reds will continue to be without Martha Harris and Jackie Groenen, with Marc Skinner confirming last week both are continuing their recoveries from respective injures but won’t be quite ready to make their returns to the pitch before Christmas.

CONTI CUP STATE OF PLAY

Going into the fifth and final round of Group B matches in this season’s League Cup, it is very much all to play for regarding progression from the group to the knock-out stage. Last-placed Durham have already completed their fixtures and cannot mathematically qualify for the next stage, but United, Everton, Manchester City and Leicester City can all still progress. The former three teams all have six points and are only separated on goal difference, while Leicester have five from their three matches to date.

A win in normal time on Merseyside would secure our progression to the last eight of the competition, although it is unknown whether that would be as table toppers or as the runner-up with the most points across the five groups. That won't be set in stone until the other game in the group between Leicester and City has been rescheduled and played, after it was postponed earlier in the day on Wednesday as a result of a number of confirmed COVID cases in the Blues' camp.
