U18s: United v City

Manchester United's Under-18s earned bragging rights in the U18 Premier League North on Saturday, as we beat crosstown rivals Manchester City 1-0 at Carrington.

Louis Jackson's second-half strike proved pivotal in a tightly-contested affair, with both teams battling well across the 90 minutes.

Young Red Elyh Harrison kept the visitors at bay with a string of second-half saves, with Finley McAllister also going close to doubling our advantage late on.
A cagey first 15 minutes ensued between both sides, as United and City attempted to control the midfield areas early on.

Jack Fletcher's corner attempted to threaten the Blues backline, with goalkeeper Jack Wint called into action.

McAllister's effort from the edge of the area looked like it was heading for the top corner after 38 minutes played, only for Stephen Mfuni to clear off the line.

Ethan Wheatley also went close on a couple of occasions, but the visitors defence stood firm as we went in level at the interval.

Fletcher's effort marked our young Reds' first real opportunity of the second half, once again forcing City keeper Wint into action.

But the deadlock was soon broken, when Fletcher found space cleverly to pick out Jackson, who lofted his effort into the net, via a deflection off Harrison Parker.

Harry Amass.

City upped the ante as we approached the final stages and Harrison made two fine stops to keep our lead in tact, denying both Christian Dunbar-McDonald and Divine Mukasa.

McAllister latched onto a loose ball following Wheatley's late effort, as United looked to make sure of the result. His strike sailed over the bar, with the full-time whistle sounding soon after.
