Man Utd players celebrate our 3-2 win over Man City in April 2018

Match Rewind: Watch City 2 United 3

Monday 30 March 2020 09:00

The votes are in and you’ve decided that we’ll show Manchester United’s 3-2 comeback victory against Manchester City from 2018 on the Official App and ManUtd.com tonight.

That magnificent day at the Etihad, in a game where Pep Guardiola’s side would have been crowned champions with a win, took home the majority of your nominations in our ‘United comebacks’ poll.

Our 5-3 come-from-behind success over Tottenham in 2001 was a close second, while 4-2 wins against Everton (2007) and West Ham (2011) were also in contention.

But stopping City winning the title in the derby on their own patch was a very special moment, and one we’ll be streaming again tonight on the above platforms at 19:00 BST.

THE MATCH

Our crosstown rivals had been dominant all season and went into the match knowing that a win would put them in an unassailable position – 19 points clear with six games to play – at the summit of the Premier League table.

United travelled over to the Etihad aiming to do what no side had managed since Everton the previous August: stop City winning at home. But goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan left us contemplating the unthinkable at half-time.

If there’s one thing United as a club are renowned for, however, it’s a comeback, and a quickfire double from Paul Pogba silenced the home crowd.

Chris Smalling then volleyed home to make it three goals in 16 minutes and, after weathering a late City onslaught, we emerged with the unlikeliest of wins to postpone City’s coronation.

HOW TO WATCH

We’ll be streaming the match from April 2018 in full and for free on the Official App and ManUtd.com at 19:00 BST tonight.

Simply tune in at that time on either platform to relive one of our best Manchester derby wins in recent years!
