Under-21s: Chelsea v United
Manchester United Under-21s succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League 2 on Friday evening.
Donnell McNeilly opened the scoring after half an hour played in the capital for the Blues, reacting the quickest following Dylan Williams' cross into the area.
McNeilly then doubled the hosts advantage in first-half stoppage time, prodding home Zak Sturge's cutback from the byline.
United captain Shola Shoretire scored twice inside six second-half minutes to level the game once more, before Tyrique George's late winner proved pivotal.
Ethan Wheatley was presented with the first opportunity as Travis Binnion's side looked to grab an early foothold in the game. His effort on goal was collected well by Blues keeper Max Merrick.
Kiano Dyer picked up the ball on the edge of the area as Chelsea then came forward for the first time. The 17-year-old, however, saw his strike sail over Elyh Harrison's crossbar.
With just 32 minutes on the clock McNeilly reacted the quickest as the hosts opened the scoring, smashing home via the underside of the crossbar after Williams' looping cross into the box.
As the second half edged on, the Chelsea no.11 grabbed his second in first-half stoppage time, flicking the ball home following Sturge's low cross.
Shortly after, Shoretire grabbed a second taking his total in Premier League 2 this season to nine. Flicking up the ball with his left, the forward notched his second of the evening from the edge of the area, pulling United level in the process.
However, there was to be late drama at Kingsmeadow, as substitute George cut in from the left before curling the ball past Harrison to ensure all three points for the Blues.
