Ole reveals team news for Brentford clash

Tuesday 27 July 2021 15:01

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an insight into his team selection for Wednesday's pre-season friendly against Brentford.

The Old Trafford game, which kicks off at 20:00 BST, is being shown exclusively live on MUTV, as a crowd of around 30,000 is set to cheer the Reds on against the newly promoted Bees.

After run-outs against Derby County and QPR, the chance to face Premier League opposition is another great opportunity for the boss to assess his options and get minutes in the tank for a number of his squad.

Donny van de Beek and Diogo Dalot are set to be on the bench after returning to training this week, but the game comes too soon for the likes of Dean Henderson and Bruno Fernandes.

Scott McTominay could be pushing for an outing after his work in Surrey last week but Alex Telles is definitely out after suffering an ankle injury during the camp.

"We’re adding more and more players now of course," Ole exclusively told club media. "Dean is back in training which is good for us, he won’t be ready for the Brentford game.

“Diogo and Donny have trained and they’re ready to play a part in the game, I would think they’ll be subs.

“Bruno is back in training. He’s not ready to join the Brentford game yet, but he’s not too far."

The squad is starting to take shape again after the international commitments over the summer.

Nathan Bishop (Mansfield Town) and Tahith Chong (Birmingham City) have now linked up with their loan clubs and the race is on for places in the Premier League opener against Leeds United on 14 August.

"We’ve got kids wanting to play of course," continued Ole. "They’ve enjoyed the pre-season. We didn’t enjoy the quick succession of the goals we conceded at the start of the second half, of course. We’ve looked at it and we need to tighten up a little bit in the shape in front of the back four and, hopefully, we can see that against Brentford.

"The training group is bigger with more quality and, hopefully, we’ll add layer to layer, but, of course, the season starts quickly and we haven’t got time to wait for anyone, whoever is the fittest and in the best shape will be in line to play."

MUTV are showing the friendly with Brentford exclusively live on Wednesday night. Take advantage of the 12 months for the price of six offer, which is currently still available.
