Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole's team news update for Fulham clash

Tuesday 19 January 2021 13:25

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on his squad in advance of Wednesday's Premier League encounter at Fulham.

The Reds are unbeaten on the road in the division for a full year, following the goalless draw at Liverpool on Sunday, but will be wary of how well the Cottagers have been playing. Scott Parker's team drew at Tottenham recently and were down to 10 men in the first half of the narrow 1-0 reverse to local rivals Chelsea last time out.

Hence, there are unlikely to be many changes for United in the capital as we look to keep top spot in the division following the round of midweek fixtures.

"It’s only been two days since we played but they’re vibrant again, ready to go," said Ole, in an exclusive interview for club media.

"We’ve not got the COVID tests back yet, the results of them, so hopefully they’ll all pass through them and there shouldn’t be many changes."

Brandon Williams joined Phil Jones on the injured list last week while Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial performed in different positions to their usual roles at Anfield.

Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes are one booking away from a suspension, which would cause them to miss the home game with Sheffield United rather than Sunday's Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

"No," Ole replied, when asked if the potential bans come into a manager's thinking.

"You just have to take one game at a time because if you leave them out for one game, then they might as well get a suspension for one game! [Smiles] There are a couple of games to go until the amnesty comes in, after 20 games, [the amnesty actually comes in after 19 matches] but it’s not in my thoughts.

“It really feels like we’ve got the strength in depth. I have to leave some players even out of the [matchday] squad, when they should be in the squad, but it’s a good challenge and conundrum to have for the right reasons."

Reds still shooting for success

Premier League stats show Ole's hunger to hit the target is being matched by the current players.

FROM THE COTTAGERS' CAMP

The hosts are without two players through suspension - Antonee Robinson, for his red card in the derby with Chelsea, and forward Bobby Decordova-Reid for accumulating five bookings.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is available again after being ineligible for the match against his parent club on Saturday but Terence Kongolo is definitely absent due to injury. Tom Cairney and Mario Lemina could be doubts, although Parker hinted they would be available.

Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has shrugged off the hamstring problem that has kept him out of action.
