Premier League fixtures for United fans to follow

Saturday 22 April 2023 09:00

On Sunday, the eyes of Manchester United and Brighton fans will be firmly fixated on an enthralling Emirates FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

But while we’re occupied in the capital, there are several Premier League clashes on the schedule that could have huge ramifications for the Reds.

Having been knocked out of the Europa League by Sevilla during the week, Erik ten Hag’s men must now finish in the top four if we are to qualify for Champions League football next term.

With that in mind, here's our guide to the weekend and forthcoming midweek fixtures in the top flight of English football...

TITLE DECIDER?

Opinions among United fans may be split on who we'd prefer to come out on top in this season’s nail-biting title race, which took another extraordinary twist last night (Friday) when Arsenal were in grave danger of losing at home to bottom-placed club Southampton. The Gunners were trailing 3-1 from just after the hour mark until Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka scored in the 88th minute and injury time respectively to salvage a dramatic 3-3 draw.

Manchester City, who face Sheffield United in the first FA Cup semi-final, now have two games in hand on the Premier League leaders and will welcome them to the Etihad Stadium for a potentially decisive match on Wednesday night. Just five points currently separate the two, with six fixtures to go for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have been leading the way throughout the campaign.

RACE FOR THE TOP FOUR

The key fixture to look out for over the weekend is one featuring our two main rivals for a top-four place, who face each other while we’re away from league action.

Newcastle United will host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with both currently sitting below us in the league table. The result of this fixture could go a long way in giving the winning side, if there is one, a boost for their hopes of Champions League qualification.

RELEGATION BATTLE

At the other end of the table, travelling United fans in particular will be watching with a keen eye to see who is likely to drop out of our fixture list for next season.

Three points for Leicester City at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers could see them emerge from the relegation zone, depending on results elsewhere. They’re also set to visit Leeds United on Tuesday, with their survival hopes hinging on every game between now and the end of the term.

WHERE CAN YOU WATCH THE ACTION?

There’s plenty of Premier League action to watch in the run-up to our FA Cup semi-final, with Sky Sports and BT Sport sharing the live broadcasting duties in the UK.

Fulham and Leeds star in BT’s Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Craven Cottage, while Tottenham's trip to take on Newcastle will be screened by Sky Sports early on Sunday afternoon, in the last couple of hours prior to our Wembley meeting with the Seagulls.

And for those fans in the UK who are keen on staying across the midweek fixtures as things intensify at the top and bottom of the standings, BT Sport will be showing every game live from Tuesday to Thursday.

Christian Eriksen will be hoping for a repeat of our home win over his old club, when we visit Spurs on Thursday.
