Williams: We deserve to reach the final
Manchester United forward Rachel Williams believes we 'deserve' our place in the Women's FA Cup final.
Our no.28 helped seal a thrilling 3-2 win for Marc Skinner's side, with an 89th-minute strike in front of the Leigh Sports Village faithful.
Both Leah Galton and Alessia Russo were on the scoresheet, but the Seagulls pushed us to the very end.
Talking through her game-winning goal with BBC Sport, Williams said: I saw the keeper coming and thought 'just round her'.
"'Keep it down, you don't need any power; emotions and tensions are high - just slot it home.'"
That is exactly what Williams did, slotting the ball under the impressive Lydia Williams between the Brighton sticks to the delight of our home fans.
With the Reds currently top of the Women's Super League and now on our way to Wembley, today's match winner believes our current campaign warrants a spot in the final.
"To get that today and send us through feels amazing," she continued.
"But credit to everyone here. The season we’re having, to now have an FA Cup final is the reward we deserve."
In an interview with club media at the start of March, Williams revealed that winning this competition was very much something she wanted to achieve with United.
"I love the FA Cup," our no.28 confessed. "I sat it out last year but wanted to be there next year, I’m just very proud of myself."
For United, it's a first-ever major tournament final and if you want to be there to cheer us on - where we'll face either Aston Villa or Chelsea - tickets are now on sale here.
