Varane: Finer details can make a difference

Saturday 05 August 2023 12:36

Raphael Varane is clear about what he and his Manchester United team-mates must do in order to improve on last season.

In the first campaign under Erik ten Hag’s management, the Reds lifted the Carabao Cup, reached the Emirates FA Cup final at Wembley and finished third in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League group stage.

But the quest for success in 2023/24 is now at the forefront of everyone's minds, with the boss and his squad consistently laying out the aims and ambitions while working hard throughout this pre-season period.

Ahead of the Old Trafford friendly against his former club RC Lens today (Saturday 12:45 BST), Varane says the finer points have been scrutinised as the players strive to get better in every facet of the game.

“We need to be 100 per cent fit for this season,” the former France international told us, as he embarks on his third term as a Red.

“We have been working on the details. Tactically, we want to be ready. We want to work as a team, as a squad.”

The centre-back continued: “We have to be more consistent this season.

“We have to repeat the good performance every three days. So it's a lot of details.

“We are working on it and hopefully we can do better this season and we want to improve all the time. So it's always a challenge for us to be better.”
