Ole predicts a strong season for Rashford

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Marcus Rashford will “kick on” this season after a strong showing in our 3-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The striker was on target in the topsy-turvy win at the Amex, calmly finding the next after an explosive run into the penalty area in the 55th minute.

Rashford’s goal, which came shortly after another effort of his was disallowed for offside, added to his strike in the midweek Carabao Cup third-round win over Luton Town.

When asked during his post-match press conference about the no. 10’s performance against the Seagulls, Solskjaer said: “He was getting better and better, I had a little bit of a go at him halfway through the first half for a tackle that he evaded, but I think his reaction, I think his sharpness is getting better.

“He’s more direct, you can see his confidence is getting there. A great goal, an absolute great run and great finish for the one that was disallowed as well and I think Marcus will really kick on this season."

Victory on the south coast was secured when Bruno Fernandes netted a penalty, awarded following a VAR check after the referee had blown the full-time whistle and despite the dramatic nature of the decision, Ole believes it was the correct one.

“The handball was before full-time so it’s probably the right thing to do and for us it’s a big thing,” he said.

“We’ve discussed it this season, we need more late goals. We were the team that lost the fewest games apart from Liverpool last season, but we drew too many. To get two extra points after conceding the equaliser so late on is a great boost for us.”

United again travel to Sussex on Wednesday night to take on Brighton in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
