Baggaley: Working with Earps pushes me on

Manchester United Women's Sophie Baggaley says that working with fellow Reds stopper and good friend Mary Earps continues to aid her development as a goalkeeper.

In an exclusive interview with club media, Sophie discusses pre-season, England's Euros success and the new summer additions to Marc Skinner’s squad

Our no.32 also gave an insight into United Women’s goalkeeper’s union and her strong relationship with Euro 2022 winner Earps.

“Me and Mary have got a similar work ethic,” said Baggaley of her fellow ‘keeper. “We both work really hard, and I think that pushes each other on.

“If you didn’t like each other, it would be hard, but we get on and we both push each and help each other achieve what we want to achieve.

“If we see something we’ll point it out. We’ve got the environment where we’re able to do that.”

Baggaley was full of praise for Earps following England’s success at the Euros, and hopes that she and fellow Reds Ella Toone and Alessia Russo can carry that form into the new WSL season.

“She did great and only conceding two in the very difficult games,” she said. “She was ready when she was called up and she performed as she performed all season: really well.

“[Earps, Russo and Toone's] confidence will be sky high so that’ll be good going into the season. You see it day in, day out when they’re here. They work their socks off so I’m sure things will be the same.”

United’s Mary has been commended for her contribution to England’s European Championship win.

The 25-year-old also believes the success of the Lionesses is monumental, and is encouraging supporters to build on the record attendances and historic figures that Euro 2022 produced.

“I think it’s been incredible,” she declared. “You look at the crowds that were at all the games and I think it’s just important that that’s brought into the domestic leagues.

“Going into the new season we want to continue to pack out the stadiums and hope we can see everyone at LSV.”
