Ole's team news update for FA Cup tie at Chelsea

Friday 15 February 2019 14:18

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will miss the next two matches, against Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup and Liverpool in the Premier League.

The attacking duo both suffered injuries during the first half of the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

In our interview at the Aon Training Complex, to preview Monday's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Stamford Bridge, Solskjaer provided this update on the pair.

"I don't think we will see them in the next two games," Ole told us. "Let's hope they heal quickly, but it looks like they might be out for two or three weeks."

"Again, Antonio [Valencia] is out, Matteo [Darmian] is out, but apart from that we are good to go."

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard both picked up injuries against Paris Saint-Germain.

When discussing the fitness of his squad, Solskjaer went on to reveal that Academy striker Mason Greenwood was in line to feature at Chelsea before an injury ruled the prospect out of action.

"I was looking, with Anthony and Jesse out, to get Mason in but unfortunately he has got an injury as well so we won't be able to blood him either, which is unfortunate for the boy."

There are other homegrown players who are pushing for first-team action, however, as Ole told us.

"Angel [Gomes] and Chongy [Tahith Chong] have been training with us, and they have been doing well, so they might be involved in that game."

David De Gea was rested for both of our two previous FA Cup ties this season, with Sergio Romero starting in his place, but Solskjaer gave nothing away when asked which goalkeeper will get the nod against Chelsea in the fifth round.

"We still have a few days of training and these games are going to be vital for us, so we will just see who is fit and available on Monday morning."

Sergio Romero has started both of our FA Cup ties this season but it remains unclear if he will face Chelsea.

Chelsea won 2-1 at Malmo in the Europa League on Thursday, thanks to goals from Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was left out with a back problem but should be available for Monday, as will Marcos Alonso, who was rested and did not travel to Sweden.
