Rangnick's team news for Brighton clash

Friday 06 May 2022 13:00

Manchester United are preparing for the penultimate match of our 2021/22 season, with Brighton & Hove Albion providing the opposition at the Amex Stadium.

The Reds face the Seagulls before a break until our last outing of the campaign, at Crystal Palace on 22 May.

After the 3-0 win over Brentford on Bank Holiday Monday, there should be a positive mood heading into the clash on the south coast, which kicks off at 17:30 BST on Saturday, and the good news is that Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire were pictured in training this week.

However, another defender, Eric Bailly, is a doubt for the weekend and forward Marcus Rashford has been ruled out due to illness.

"Harry is back in training," confirmed interim boss Ralf Rangnick at his pre-match press conference at Carrington. "He trained the whole week, since the day after or the second day after the Brentford game, he resumed for training. So, he will be available for tomorrow and be part of the group.

"Edinson [Cavani] is in training, obviously he came on as a sub. Marcus Rashford will be missing, he has caught bronchitis with high temperatures so he won't be able to be part of the group.

"We have a question mark behind Eric Bailly, he called the doctor this morning and had some back problems – problems with his back – and he's being checked right now. We'll have to see if he will be able to train afterwards."

Left-back Luke Shaw appears to be out for the rest of the season, with Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba also seemingly facing a battle to be fit for the finale at Selhurst Park.

Juan Mata performed well on his first Premier League start of the season against Brentford while Fred and Cavani came off the bench to make their reappearance after injury.

BRIGHTON'S TEAM NEWS

The in-form Seagulls have won three of their last five matches and will be out to add to an unusually poor home record of only three victories all season in the league.

Brighton boss Graham Potter will be without Enock Mwepu and Jeremy Sarmiento.

"Enock will miss United," he said. "It's a slight injury in his groin, which probably means that will be him for the rest of the season.

"Jeremy is still out. Jakub [Moder] is obviously long term but everyone else is okay."
