Team news for Sheffield United encounter

Tuesday 26 January 2021 13:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on Marcus Rashford's fitness ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

The forward, who scored in Sunday's Emirates FA Cup fourth-round win over Liverpool and hit a double in the corresponding fixture at Bramall Lane before Christmas, hurt his knee in the second half of the tie with the Merseysiders.

A scan was required to assess the problem and, thankfully, it showed no major damage.

The futures of Lingard and Williams, as well as the form of two forwards, were discussed in Tuesday’s media briefing…

"Marcus is available, yeah," said the boss. "He trained this morning. I think he tweaked his knee a little bit but should be fine.

“We are looking strong, which is a good place to be in."

Ole had previously revealed centre-back Eric Bailly would be fit, despite missing the weekend victory, as he is carefully managed, like fellow defender Victor Lindelof.

Bruno Fernandes started on the bench against Liverpool, of course, before coming on to devastating effect by scoring the winner with his wonderful free-kick. Donny van de Beek will be hoping for another chance to impress in midfield but the manager is really spoiled for choice when it comes to his selection at the moment.

Although Dean Henderson appeared in the 3-2 victory at Bramall Lane, against the club where he had two successful loan spells, David De Gea could reclaim the gloves as United look to maintain top spot in the division with three points in the 20:15 GMT kick-off.

NEWS FROM THE BLADES' CAMP

Boss Chris Wilder has a headache in defence with John Egan's suspension compounding the prolonged absence of Jack O'Connell, who has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee problem. Consequently, veteran Phil Jagielka could be involved, as he was in the corresponding game at Bramall Lane.

Sander Berge was injured in the 3-2 loss to the Reds and is out following an operation, while Ben Osborn is also expected to be sidelined. There are still question-marks over the fitness of forwards Oli McBurnie and Lys Mousset.

"We’re waiting on Mousset," confirmed Wilder. "Potentially, there are nine players from our group unavailable for Wednesday. Fingers crossed, there might be one or two of those boys back for the weekend [at Manchester City]."
