Revealed: Thorisdottir's shirt number

Manchester United Women’s newest addition Maria Thorisdottir has chosen her shirt number.

The Norwegian international arrived from Chelsea last week, signing a two-year deal with United, with the option of a further year.

The central defender was part of the matchday squad at the weekend, as the Reds secured a 2-0 Women’s Super League win against Birmingham City.

The keen observers will have noticed that our fresh acquisition was sporting the no.3 jersey when Casey Stoney’s full squad was revealed. Thorisdottir thereby takes over the kit number from Lotta Okvist, who left United earlier this month to return to Sweden.

Former United Alex Greenwood wore the no. 3 shirt in our first ever campaign in 2018/19, as she guided the club to promotion to the WSL.

Thorisdottir made the move to England in 2017, when she joined Chelsea from Norwegian side Klepp. The defender played 22 times for the Blues across four seasons, winning the WSL twice as well as the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield. She has also represented her national team at the Euros and the World Cup.

At the weekend, the Reds are back in WSL action, as we travel to Merseyside to take on Everton at Walton Hill Park. Our new no. 3, who has high ambitions at United, will hope she can make her United debut in the clash with the Toffees. Kick-off on Sunday is at 14:30 GMT.

United moved back to the league summit following our win over Birmingham last week, although with Chelsea in action twice before we play Everton, the London side could overtake the Reds at the top of the table.
