Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Goodison Park

Confirmed: United team to face Everton

Sunday 01 March 2020 13:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his Man Utd XI to take on Everton at Goodison Park and there is good news with the return of Anthony Martial from injury.

The French striker missed Thursday’s 5-0 win over Club Brugge with a muscle problem, but is back for the Reds’ Premier League clash on Merseyside.

“It was just a precaution on Thursday, he probably could have played," Ole told MUTV before kick-off. "We didn’t take the risk though, knowing Odion was going to play well and there would be no problem.”

Ole reflects on his birthday & the Europa League draw, before targeting a win over Carlo Ancelotti's improving Everton.

Martial is one of five changes to the side who booked United a spot in the Europa League last 16 as he comes in for Odion Ighalo, who is named on the bench.

Also returning to the side are David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood in place of Sergio Romero, Eric Bailly, Juan Mata and Daniel James, who Ole confirmed was being left out as a precaution.

"He got a knock on Thursday but he’ll be fine for Thursday [against Derby in the FA Cup] or definitely next weekend so not too much to worry about.”

Asked whether the players wanted to show how far they've come since 4-0 defeat to the Toffees last season, Ole added: “The ones who played have got a point to prove and the others know how [much of a] low point that was for us. There’s a couple of new ones. Of course, Bruno [Fernandes] it’s a new experience for him, Mason too.

"You know the atmosphere can get to you if you don’t get a good start. For us, it’s about getting a good start, be on the front foot, be ready for their press, be ready for their intensity and hopefully get the first goal.”

Here's the side selected by Solskjaer for the 14:00 GMT kick-off:

United:
De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire (c), Shaw; Matic, Fred, McTominay; Fernandes; Greenwood, Martial.

Subs:
Romero, Bailly, Williams, Mata, Lingard, Andreas, Ighalo.

Everton: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Holgate, Baines; Walcott, Davies, Gomes, Sigurdsson; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

Subs: Virginia, Sidibe, Mina, Delph, Iwobi, Bernard, Kean.
