The festive fixture period may be over but there's still plenty of football to look forward to in the first month of the new year.

All in all, our men's, women's, Under-23s' and Under-18s' sides face 15 fixtures between now and the beginning of February, with our Emirates FA Cup and Vitality Women's FA Cup campaigns beginning, alongside the regular league season.

Why yellow cards against Wolves have proved costly for two United players.

MEN’S TEAM

After the disappointing defeat to Wolves which opened 2022, Ralf Rangnick’s side are in action a further four times this month, with back-to-back fixtures against Aston Villa next up. Steven Gerrard brings his side to Old Trafford for an FA Cup third-round tie next Monday, five days before United visit Villa Park in the Premier League. The Midlanders beat us in M16 earlier this season, thanks to Kortney Hause’s late goal, but we have a stellar recent record against them, having won 13 of the previous 15 meetings.

The match with Brentford, postponed before Christmas, has been rearranged for 19 January, while a clash with David Moyes's West Ham at the Theatre of Dreams brings January to an end. The Reds are then scheduled to have a 17-day break before our next top-flight game due to international fixtures, although the fourth round of the FA Cup is scheduled for the first weekend in February.

It’s due to be a busy month for Marc Skinner’s side, who face action in three different competitions. The Continental Cup quarter-final at WSL leaders Arsenal has been arranged for Wednesday 19 January, while we also have an away game in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, as third-tier Bridgwater United host a fourth-round fixture at the end of January. Prior to that, the Reds could rise up the league table, with positive results against Birmingham and Tottenham.

UNDER-23S

Neil Wood’s side haven’t played since a 4-0 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers at the beginning of December but can look forward to three challenging fixtures against sides above us in the table. There’s the opportunity to complete a league double over Brighton, but before that we’ll be looking to avenge defeats to Tottenham and Manchester City earlier in the campaign.

Please note the derby has moved to Saturday 15 January with an evening kick-off.

10 January – Tottenham (H, 19:00 GMT)

The young Reds’ January is bookended by league fixtures with Blackburn and Everton, although it is the FA Youth Cup fourth-round clash at Reading next Thursday which will be most anticipated for a lot of fans. The U18 Premier League Cup tie with West Brom, postponed prior to Christmas, has been rearranged for Saturday 15 January.
