What's happening at United this week?

Monday 02 May 2022 13:00

The final month of the 2021/22 football season is upon us, and the first full week of May is another busy one for Manchester United with two first-team matches and our women's team and Under-18s also being in action.

Here's our guide to what lies ahead for the next seven days...

MONDAY

United's final home fixture of the 2021/22 season means it's the last time an Old Trafford crowd will see Ralf Rangnick in the technical area and, if selected, Nemanja Matic on the pitch following his recent departure announcement. Meanwhile, it's a first for our opponents Brentford - their maiden visit in the Premier League, although they did play against us in an entertaining pre-season game at the Theatre of Dreams in July 2022.

See what happened when Brentford last visited Old Trafford, in a pre-season game ahead of the 21/22 campaign...

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 BST and you can follow updates on ManUtd.com and in the United App, as well as enjoying exclusive build-up, live radio commentary and post-match analysis on MUTV.

Meanwhile, we'd like to wish David Beckham a very happy birthday. Our former no.7 was born in this day in 1975.

TUESDAY

Reaction to the Brentford game will continue and we'll be picking out an anecdote or two from Henning Berg's appearance on the UTD Podcast. The Treble winner's episode will actually be available in the United App from Monday afternoon and, 24 hours later, via other streaming platforms.

WEDNESDAY

This date in 1998 marked the beginning of a stellar first-team career for Wes Brown, whose meteoric rise through the Academy ranks was marked by a senior debut as the Reds beat Leeds United 3-0 at Old Trafford. The defender came on as a 60th-minute substitute, replacing David May - now a fellow pundit on weekly MUTV show, The Debate. Happy anniversary, Wes!
THURSDAY

Our cameras are set to be at Carrington where the Reds will be training hard ahead of our penultimate match of the season - away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Look out for clues as to who could be involved in Rangnick's matchday plans, particularly if you're a keen player of the United Predictions game in our app.

FRIDAY

The interim manager is expected to hold his usual pre-match press conference and we'll be ready to bring you every word from Ralf, including his latest update on the strength of our squad for the weekend . You'll be able to watch his media briefing in full on ManUtd.com, the app and MUTV.

SATURDAY

Brighton v United will be the featured match on Sky Sports in the UK, kicking off at 17:30 BST. As usual, MUTV's coverage will begin 65 minutes beforehand with exclusive build-up from the Amex Stadium and will continue with radio commentary during the game. Live updates will also be available on ManUtd.com and in the United App.

United Women 3 West Ham 0

The Reds return to winning ways with a commanding performance against the Hammers.

SUNDAY

United Women will wrap up the 2021/22 season with a huge game, away to the leaders Chelsea who are closing in on their third consecutive WSL title. In fact, the hosts will already be champions before kick-off at 12:00 BST if second-placed Arsenal lose their home derby to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

As for the Reds, a win would secure third place - and qualification for next season's Champions League - if our local rivals Manchester City pick up fewer than four points from Wednesday's game at home to Birmingham City and Sunday's trip to Reading.

Anniversary-wise, 8 May was the date on which legendary United captain Bryan Robson played his last game for the club in 1994, and Sir Alex Ferguson rocked the football world by announcing his retirement in 2013.
