Rashford's signing day: Three touching moments
A whole week has flown by since Marcus Rashford committed his future to Manchester United and Reds around the world will undoubtedly still be buzzing with excitement.
The Academy graduate put pen to paper on a long-term deal to keep him at United until at least 2028 and immediately underlined his continued ambition to win the biggest prizes with the club he dearly loves.
Extending his contract was a huge moment for the no.10, who invited his family to join him at Old Trafford. Our cameras took you behind the scenes of the special day and we’ve picked out just three of the standout moments…
DRESSING ROOM REFLECTIONS
Of course, nobody will ever forget when we first saw Marcus burst on to the first-team scene, with that famous brace against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
United staff member Jason Leach got Rashy thinking about that glorious night in February 2016 as he cast his mind back to where he was sat in the dressing room before walking out to grace the hallowed turf at the Theatre of Dreams for the first time.
As Jason recalls, the old home dressing room at the time was smaller and Rashy remembers being sat along the back wall with the rest of the forward players. “Does it seem a long time ago?” asked Jason. “Yeah, it was!” Marcus replied.
COMPETITIVE EDGE SHINES THROUGH
As we all know, Marcus is fiercely competitive with an astonishing drive to be the best person and footballer he can possibly be - whether it be in a training session with his team-mates or helping other people off the pitch.
This was illustrated in an exchange in the tunnel when a young relative laid down a challenge to play against Marcus one day and get the better of him.
“You can’t beat me,” Rashy said not once but twice.
Later after an interview in the stands with Wes Brown and a pitchside photoshoot, it was put to Marcus that a lot of his England team-mates have said he is the best at rondos - a particular training drill - which only further demonstrates the effort and commitment he puts in to every session.
He couldn’t hide his laughter before admitting “I don’t know, I have my bad days!”
FAMILY IS EVERYTHING
We are lucky to have Marcus in the United family but it has always been evident how Rashy values his own family, who have been there for him throughout his journey.
For what was a significant moment in the next stage of his career, Marcus brought along some of his family members to be part of the occasion, which made it extra special.
They took part in a photoshoot and filmed a nice video in which his family congratulated Marcus on signing the new deal.
It was so heartwarming to see lots of smiling faces and how close knit his family are, as well as what extending his stay at United clearly means to those closest to Rashy.
They were all naturals in front of the cameras too!
Marcus is currently in the United States with the rest of the United squad, working hard in pre-season in order to be ready for the return of competitive action.
Don’t forget, all of the senior men’s pre-season fixtures are available to watch live on MUTV.
