Old Trafford filling up for Rayo Vallecano friendly

Monday 25 July 2022 16:37

Erik ten Hag may have visited Old Trafford once, in May, after he was confirmed as Manchester United manager, but he will get a first proper taste of the famous stadium on Sunday.

The Reds have organised a final pre-season friendly, against Rayo Vallecano, and over 60,000 tickets have already been sold as fans are eager to get a glimpse of life under the new boss.

We will also welcome just over 10,000 young Reds on Sunday, following the launch of a complimentary ticket scheme to give local schools and clubs in the vicinity the opportunity to watch United for free and be part of history as takes charge at Old Trafford for the first time.

Ten Hag is first taking a team to Oslo to meet Atletico Madrid on the Saturday, with both games live in the United App and also available via MUTV and ManUtd.com.

Demand has been high as supporters usher in the new era, with a first senior men's game being staged at the Theatre of Dreams since the 3-1 win over Brentford on 2 May.

Christian Eriksen was an opponent that day but could make his maiden appearance for the Reds, after arriving on a free transfer, in one of the weekend fixtures.

If Lisandro Martinez completes his move from Ajax in time, he could also feature in either Norway or Manchester.

There are still a number of seats available for the Vallecano game, which kicks off at 16:00 BST.

Tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £10 for under 16s and £50 for hospitality.

More information is available here.

The attendance is likely to rise to a figure where it is the biggest crowd for a pre-season game in England all summer. The Community Shield is being held at Leicester City's King Power Stadium, rather than Wembley, and, while Tottenham and Arsenal are both at home this weekend, the final number at Old Trafford is expected to be the biggest.

Next weekend's Spanish double-header will be shown live on MUTV, now available in our app and on ManUtd.com.
