Academy round-up: Call-ups and pre-Christmas game

Friday 16 September 2022 12:59

Manchester United pair Tyler Fredricson and Kobbie Mainoo have been named in the latest England Under-18s squad.

Defender Fredricson and midfielder Mainoo were part of last season's FA Youth Cup-winning squad and were both added to UEFA's B list for the Europa League last week, with Fredricson making the bench for the game against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.

England's youngsters face the Netherlands, Faroe Islands and Belgium during the break, with the matches being played in Pinatar in Spain. Former United Academy coach Neil Ryan is in charge of that age group.

There have all been call-ups for two of our Under-21s group, with Omari Forson and Sam Mather named in the England Under-19s squad for a tournament in Denmark.

United's Under-18 Premier League match on Saturday, away to Stoke City, is still being played as scheduled, kicking off at 11:00 BST.

However, it will not be shown live on MUTV due to the United Women's season opener at home to Reading starting at 12:00 BST. We will be showing highlights on our club channels after the game has finished and, hopefully, any goal clips during our exclusive coverage from Leigh Sports Village.

Meanwhile, the Under-18s' match with Sunderland, which was postponed last Saturday following the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II, will now be held just before Christmas.

The Carrington clash will get under way at 13:00 GMT on Tuesday 20 December.
