Who is United Women’s Player of the Month?

Wednesday 01 March 2023 11:00

The poll to crown Manchester United Women’s Player of the Month for February is now open.

During an unbeaten month – in which the Reds picked up four points from a six and progressed into the FA Cup quarter-finals – performances were strong all round, but we have narrowed it down to four players for you to choose from.

A dominant display was unfortunately only enough for a point against Everton, but the Reds went on to win against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the league, before winning Sunday’s cup tie at home to Durham 5-0.

Following those matches, here are the four nominees for our latest award, and the poll in which you can cast your vote…

HANNAH BLUNDELL
Three apps / one goal

The defender, who was also up for the WSL’s corresponding award, has enjoyed a standout month for United. Hannah started each of the three matches, contributing towards the clean sheets against Everton and Durham. In those matches, her attacking presence was also prominent, notably playing a key pass in the first of those fixtures that would create an attack that saw Ella Toone strike the post. Against Durham, our no.6’s determined drive forward won the free-kick that Vilde Boe Risa opened the scoring from, before she netting our third goal of the match with a first-time left-footed volley.

LEAH GALTON
Three apps / two goals

Our no.11 missed all of January due to injury but was back to her brilliant best upon her return in February. The winger found the net twice, opening the scoring in the away win against Spurs before beating the offside trap and producing a perfectly executed first-time effort to find the net again against Durham. Leah would have had another effort to add to her tally for the month too, had a precise header against Spurs not been ruled out for offside.

MAYA LE TISSIER
Three apps

Maya played every minute of the Reds’ unbeaten month, also helping England to retain the Arnold Clark Cup during the international break. Along with clean sheets against Everton and Durham, the defender played a key role in the victory over Spurs, helping Skinner’s side to see out the remaining 10 minutes with a victory intact, and a player less, following Ella Toone’s late red card.

MILLIE TURNER
Three apps / one assist

It will be a month that Millie remembers for a long time, after becoming the third United Women player to bring up 100 appearances for the club, during the win at Spurs. As well as playing her part in two shutouts, and helping the Reds to hold on to the win with a player less in the closing stages at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Turner was also able to contribute going forward. Our no.21 nearly set up a goal for Nikita Parris against Durham, with a superbly lofted pass that the latter glanced just wide, before Parris later converted Turner’s knockdown from a corner into the net, to complete the scoring in the 5-0 win.
