What’s happening this week at United?

Monday 30 January 2023 07:00

An action-packed and exciting seven days awaits at Manchester United, as we round off January and enter the month of February.

The men’s team of course hold a favourable 3-0 advantage going into the second leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday, and are therefore in a strong position to book a place in a Wembley final this week.

United Women and our Under-18s are in action before next Sunday too, while Erik ten Hag’s Reds will also return to Premier League action. The Dutchman is set to celebrate his birthday as well!

So, here’s a day-by-day rundown of all that and more, outlining everything for you to keep an eye out for this week…

MONDAY

We’ll be rounding up the reaction to a busy weekend of football - which included wins in the FA Cup for both our men and women - and be celebrating the three-year anniversary of Bruno Fernandes’s arrival at United.

You will be able to vote for your standout performer in Ten Hag’s side when our Player of the Month voting for January opens too, so be sure to stay tuned to find out which Reds have been nominated. There will also be a brand-new episode of the UTD Podcast to listen to, exclusively in the United App from 17:00 GMT, with former Old Trafford hero Gordon Strachan.

The draws for the respective FA Cup competitions take place in the evening – the women’s is first on BBC’s Sportsday programme between 18:30 and 19:00 GMT, before the men’s fifth round is mapped out on The One Show on BBC One from 19:00. We’ll have the news from both, on ManUtd.com and our app, as soon as the draws are made.

TUESDAY

On Tuesday, attentions will switch towards our Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest when Erik holds his pre-match press conference, which you will be able to see live across MUTV, ManUtd.com and the United App.

As well as that, across our official platforms, you will be able to have your say on our first-ever official United Women's Player of the Month award.

Tuesday is also transfer deadline day for both our men’s and women’s teams. The Premier League deadline is at 23:00 GMT, while there are two cut-offs for the WSL – 17:00 GMT for domestic transfers and midnight for international moves.

The other Carabao Cup semi-final second leg also takes place – between Newcastle United and Southampton (KO 20:00 GMT) – and is worth keeping an eye on. Should we advance from our last-four tie, we will play the winners - the Magpies currently have a 1-0 lead after the first leg.

WEDNESDAY

It’s matchday as Ten Hag’s side look to complete the job in the Carabao Cup, and book our first trip to Wembley since reaching the FA Cup semi-finals and final in the 2017/18 season. The Reds lead 3-0 following our first-leg victory at The City Ground last week

You will be able to stay across the action, live from Old Trafford. We will have pre-match build-up, including our Matchday Live show from 18:55 GMT, and full post-match reaction, either side of live radio commentary.

THURSDAY

On Thursday, we will hopefully be celebrating the Reds booking a place in the final of the Carabao Cup, something which would be the perfect early birthday present for the manager! Erik turns 53 on this day.

FRIDAY

The boss will meet with the media once more to preview our return to Premier League action. Crystal Palace are the visitors to Old Trafford on Saturday (15:00 GMT), and therefore you will be able to see every word from his pre-match press conference across our channels, ahead of that one.

SATURDAY

The men’s team are not the only United side for you to follow on Saturday, with our Under-18s playing in the U18 Premier League, away to Derby County. You will be able to watch that 12:00 GMT kick-off live on MUTV, with build-up starting at 11:45.

That is before pre-match coverage from Old Trafford, ahead of the afternoon’s Premier League football. As usual, you will be able to follow all the action from M16 with our exclusive matchday offerings – including live radio commentary of the match – as the Reds look to get back to winning ways in the league. The first whistle is at 15:00 GMT.

SUNDAY

In the morning, we will have reaction to Saturday’s matches, and we’ll be looking ahead to our women’s team’s WSL outing against Everton (KO 12:00 GMT).

For that game, there will be coverage across ManUtd.com and the United App. In the latter and on MUTV, you will be able to listen to live commentary of the 90 minutes from Leigh Sports Village.
