What United fans want from the fixtures

With the release of the Premier League fixtures on the horizon, the excitement for Manchester United’s return to action is growing all the time.

The Reds will learn our provisional league schedule for the 2019/20 season at 09:00 BST, when fans will be able to start planning for the new campaign.

Ahead of the eagerly anticipated fixtures release, we have been running a series of polls in the Official App to see what supporters want the computer to throw up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reds will discover our provisional league schedule for 2019/20 on Thursday.

We asked where you would like to start the season and an overwhelming 85 per cent of voters would like to be at Old Trafford on the opening weekend, as opposed to having an away game to begin the campaign with.

Interestingly, when asked which team you want to face first in 2019/20, 47 per cent of fans who voted in our poll want to start against a rival – including the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. Thirty per cent want to take on a mid-table side and 24 per cent would like our opening match to be against one of the three newly promoted teams.

Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United came up from the Championship after Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield Town suffered relegation from the top flight in 2018/19.

We put the question to app users which of the three promoted teams are you most excited to face - and a massive 74 per cent are looking forward to facing Dean Smith’s Villa, who are back in the Premier League after spending two seasons in the second tier.

Seventeen per cent voted for Sheffield United, who were last in the top flight in 2006/07, while nine per cent went for Championship champions Norwich City, who last played Premier League football in 2015/16.

United fans are looking forward to Aston Villa's return to the Premier League.

Similarly, in our final poll, 86 per cent of fans voted for Villa Park as their favourite of the three stadiums back in the Premier League schedule. It’s hardly surprising considering the Reds’ impressive record at the traditional ground in the West Midlands.

Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane home and Norwich City’s Carrow Road both received seven per cent of votes cast.

Thanks to everyone who voted and don’t forget you can find out United’s Premier League fixtures when they are revealed by visiting ManUtd.com and the Official App at 09:00 BST.
