What United means to TBJZL

Friday 17 June 2022 10:00

One of our proud sponsors, Chivas Regal, took to the pitch at Old Trafford recently, and with them arrived a coachload of serious ballers and talent.

One of those was Tobi Brown, a member of the trail-blazing content creators, the Sidemen.

We caught up with Tobi to find out his thoughts on the game, which was a UK XI vs World XI, his Manchester United icons, and what he’s looking forward to seeing under our new manager, Erik ten Hag.

Tobi, what’s it like playing at Old Trafford?
“It’s beautiful man. It’s no Sunday league pitch, I’ll tell you that. It’s like a carpet surface, the ball just glides across the pitch, it’s beautiful!”

What is your favourite thing about being at Old Trafford?
“It feels like home. I’m from London, but Manchester is like a second home to me. I grew up watching this stadium on TV, playing in it on video games. I’ve supported United since I was like five years old, so everytime that I come here it just feels special.”

If you could line-up alongside one United player, either past or present, who would it be?
“It’s got to be CR7! Or alternatively, Paul Scholes because he’ll ping a pass and find me.”

What does it feel like walking down the tunnel?
“It’s surreal, I can’t lie. Very, very surreal.”
What’s your favourite moment as a Manchester United fan?
“There’s been so many last-minute winners. But I think my favourite one would be Jesse Lingard in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace when we were down to 10 men.”

Who’s your favourite young baller at the club?
“Anthony Elanga has tried so hard this season, he’s been doing bits. But I’m also excited to see [Alejandro] Garnacho break into the first team, and there’s also my boy Charlie McNeill!”
Having a run out on the hallowed turf.
What are you looking forward to most next season?
“A fresh chance at the league, and a fresh chance at trophies. I was disappointed this year, but I think I was lucky growing up. I feel like I’m really experiencing what it’s like to be a football fan, I never know if we’re going to win or lose. I was spoiled as a child [supporting United].”
Keeping a watchful eye on the game.
Who makes it into your all-time United five-a-side team?
“Give me De Gea in goal. Nemanja Vidic, alongside him my guy Rio Ferdinand. Then give me Paul Scholes in the middle, with Wayne Rooney too, and then stick me in too.”

It was a pleasure to catch up with Tobi at the Theatre of Dreams, and here’s to more great United memories being made next time he’s at Old Trafford.
