Who was behind our corner routine?

Michael Carrick has explained the inspiration behind Manchester United's opening goal in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Our head coach confirmed the corner routine was one from the training ground at Carrington, a plan hatched up by Jonny Evans and analyst Kaita Hasegawa.

The Reds capitalised after Cristian Romero's sending off when Kobbie Mainoo ran towards corner-taker Bruno Fernandes and laid the ball invitingly into the path of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cameroon international kept his composure to roll a lovely finish beyond Guglielmo Vicario.

At half-time, Carrick told TNT Sports: "Yeah, it was Jonny, he has had his eye on set-plays, Jonny Evans, and Kaita, the analyst.

"So it's great when things come off. Obviously, we've all got different ideas but the lads carried it off great.

"Bruno, Kobbie and Bryan put it away, so we're delighted with that."

Speaking to the broadcasters after the 2-0 victory, with Fernandes sealing the three points in the 81st minute, Carrick was asked about the routine again.

"I wouldn't say he's the set-piece coach, Jonny, but he's got an eye on it as well as we all have," added the boss.

"Jonny has been doing a lot of work with the players and got the rewards for that, so we're delighted.

"We go into every game with some ideas and when you see it come off as good as that, and as important as that, it was the first goal and massive. It shows how important they can be."
