Who was our Man of the Match?

Saturday 14 January 2023 15:30

Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Manchester City will live long in the memory.

The Reds looked to be heading towards a first defeat at Old Trafford since September, when Jack Grealish headed into the net on the hour mark, just three minutes after coming on.

United were struggling to find a way through, but Bruno Fernandes latched on to Casemiro's pass 12 minutes from time and lashed home an equaliser.

There were shouts of offside from the visitors, but Marcus Rashford - who had strayed beyond the City backline - didn't touch the ball, prior to Fernandes finding the net.

It got even better just four minutes later, when Rashford escaped the attention of the City defenders to sidefoot home Alejandro Garnacho's cross.

Incredibly, it was Marcus's ninth straight scoring game at Old Trafford - but this really was a team win, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia shining at full-back and Fred and Casemiro putting in the hard yards in midfield.

There was a clear winner of our post-match Man of the Match poll, though.

Rashford is incredibly popular with supporters at the moment, having been voted our December Player of the Month, and he looks a good bet to win January's award, too.

His derby winner - his fifth goal against City - kept up his impressive scoring streak since the World Cup and he placed first in today's vote.

Fernandes, who put a serious effort in, whether on the left wing, right wing or in the middle, came second, with Casemiro third in our poll.
