United's Man of the Match v Everton: Your votes are in

Friday 06 January 2023 22:59

Supporters have been voting in the United App to decide the Reds’ Man of the Match following the 3-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup third round.

Antony had opened the scoring for Erik ten Hag’s side inside the opening five minutes but saw his goal cancelled out exactly 10 minutes later, by Conor Coady’s equaliser.

Coady then put the ball past his own goalkeeper in the second half, which saw United retake the lead, before Marcus Rashford’s stoppage-time penalty made sure of our place in the next round.

United fans had until 22:45 GMT this evening to have their say on our star performer via an official poll, and now the result is in.
Rashford was picked as our Man of the Match, as he continued his fine form of late with another influential display, garnering a massive 82 per cent of all votes.

Playing on the left of our attacking line, Marcus set up United’s early opener, driving forward and working some space before squaring the ball for Antony to slide into an empty net.

Our no.10, who was also voted Emirates FA Cup’s official Man of the Match, continued to play with an initiative as the Reds looked to restore our lead following Coady’s leveller.

His efforts were rewarded in the 52nd minute when another of his low passes across the goal from the left caused problems, with Coady turning the ball into his own net.
Rashford was then able to cap off his performance in a fitting manner, netting a stoppage-time penalty after Alejandro Garnacho was hauled down in the box by Ben Godfrey.

The goal means the forward has now scored in seven successive matches at Old Trafford, and in each of our five games since the restart following the World Cup.

Marcus Rashford is keen to keep the momentum going, after putting in a stellar performance at the Theatre of Dreams...

Behind Rashford, both Antony and Casemiro received five per cent of the vote for their contributions.

Marcus has now won the award five times this season, also being voted as the key man against Arsenal (H), Omonia (A), Burnley (H) and Wolves (A).

Thank you to everyone who voted.
