Manchester United were in almost complete control during Thursday's comfortable win over Sheriff Tiraspol, with many outstanding individual contributions.

But we can now reveal who has won our fan poll to determine the Reds' Man of the Match.

It was a close-run thing, with three players grabbing more than 15 per cent of the vote, but one star performer emerged as the clear winner.

Who was United's standout performer in the win against Sheriff?

Midfield maestro Christian Eriksen was the man who emerged triumphant (32 per cent), after a delicious display that had commentators and fans alike purring over his intelligent stewardship of the centre of the pitch.

The Dane was integral to our opening goal, scored by Jadon Sancho, thanks to an incisive pass delivered with perfect timing.

Eriksen took the ball just outside the Sheriff area, paused to allow the appropriate passing channel to open up, and then slid it into Sancho, who turned and finished.

And throughout the game in Chisinau, our no.14 delighted with his appreciation of the game, astute decision-making and unflappable calmness.
Second in our poll was Sancho (25 per cent), who notched his third of the season with the aforementioned goal.

The Englishman was disappointed to miss out on the England squad announced earlier today, but responded with an excellent performance that will keep him firmly in Gareth Southgate's thoughts ahead of the mid-season World Cup.

In third (18 per cent) was Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot after Diogo Dalot was brought down.

We round up the key talking points from the 2-0 triumph against Sheriff.

Other Reds to draw appreciation were defensive stalwarts Lisandro Martinez (seven per cent) and Tyrell Malacia (four per cent), plus captain Bruno Fernandes (four per cent).

But it was a display of real cohesion from Ten Hag's team, who were solid in defence, thanks to the leadership of the influential Raphael Varane, and crisp in possession.

The manager will be delighted that so many are regularly producing strong performances ahead of the first international break of the 2022/23 season.

Congratulations to Christian, and thanks to all who voted.
