Manchester United's youngsters followed up their final game of the Papa Johns Trophy group stage by meeting with members of the local supporters' cliub.

The Under-21s have thoroughly enjoyed playing in front of crowds, preparing them for league football, and personally thanked the supporters for helping them top the section and qualify for the knockout stages.

The Reds were unbeaten and progressed before a ball was kicked off in the game at Fleetwood, which finished 2-2 before the home side won a penalty shoot-out to earn a bonus point.

"Fleetwood Reds enjoyed a superb night as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations at the recent Papa Johns Trophy game between Fleetwood Town and Man Utd Under-21s," commented Brian Houten, the supporters' club secretary.

"We were able to meet some of the players afterwards: all good lads, as well as great players. Special thanks to the United staff who made this happen and to Fleetwood Town for their first-class hospitality."

Many of the young Reds built a relationship with the supporters during our successful FA Youth Cup run last term.

The round-of-32 draw will feature the group winners drawn at home against runners-up from a pool in the same region, but not the same group. There will be no regionalisation from the quarter-finals onwards.

The first knockout round is scheduled to take place around 30 November.

Wembley will host the final on Sunday 19 March, 2023.
