When will United discover UEFA Youth League opponents?

Neil Wood's youngsters won five from six group-stage games, including the most recent, 2-1 against Young Boys at Leigh Sports Village.

The tournament mirrors the Champions League to a large extent, with the same group fixtures for senior and Under-19 sides.

However, there is a separate route to the knock-outs of the UEFA Youth League called the Domestic Champions Path. The youth domestic champions of the top 32 UEFA associations enter this, if they have not already qualified due to their first team's Champions League status. This group includes well-known teams like Deportivo La Coruna, FC Koln, Empoli, Angers, Genk, AZ Alkmaar, Rangers, Sparta Prague and Red Star Belgrade.

These teams faced off in two rounds of two-legged home-and-away ties, played at the same time as the UEFA Youth League group stages.

On 14 December 2021, the winners of the Domestic Champions Path ties and the group stage runners-up will be drawn into play-off matches, to be played on 8-9 February 2022.

It is after these play-off matches that United will discover our round-of-16 opponents, with the draw then being held on 14 February 2022.

Teams qualified for round of 16 as group winners: Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Sporting, Real Madrid, Benfica, UNITED, RB Salzburg, Juventus.

Teams qualified for play-offs as group runners-up: Club Brugge, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Internazionale, Dynamo Kiev, Villarreal, Sevilla, Chelsea.

Teams qualified for play-offs as second-round winners: Hajduk Split, Genk, Deportivo La Coruna, Zilina, Empoli, Midtjylland, AZ Alkmaar, Rangers.
