Paul Pogba
There is no time to be down

“Today we know we lost and there is no time to be disappointed for a week, because we know where we are. We are in a good position now. It is difficult and it is going to be difficult, and you learn from those games. It is going to hopefully help us to get through this, to get better and to have a positive result in the next games.”

Paul Pogba
My assessment of the semi-final

“Of course it is disappointing because it is not the first one against City at home. We are disappointed with the result, obviously, with the two goals from set-pieces. It can go both ways but we lost today. It is not the first one, like I said. It is very annoying to lose because there is a trophy behind all of this. We have to do better, we have to do better for sure.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
This won't affect our recent progress

“It is allowed for an hour or so to be very disappointed before you go to bed, but then you wake up tomorrow morning with something to look forward to. You have got to. You have got to be positive again because we have the FA Cup and big league games.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
We've improved since last season's semi-final

“For me this is a much better and more competitive version of Man United, but still we have lost and we are just not there yet. That is a big word, ‘yet’, but we will get there and these boys are getting better. These disappointments will hurt and those little habits that will create those little margins for you, they have been good but we can also be better at the little things.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
My assessment of the game

“It was a tight game and they played a very good first half. They made us have to defend really well and we did. We kept defending well and they didn’t create too many chances. They had a shot hit the post, but I felt we were in the game and just need a little bit extra. But I am very disappointed to have conceded from two set-plays. After the first I thought we reacted well and played well, when they went 1-0 up, created half chances, but not enough to score.”

Bryan Robson
The Reds lacked creativity

“It’s disappointing because when we went a goal down the lads were pushing, but we just didn’t have enough to get that goal to get back into it. We weren’t totally out of the game and we created several good moves without creating chances. But you have to give City credit, they defended so well over the night.”

Full Time
Defeat for United as City progress

It's the visitors who secure their place at Wembley on a disappointing night for the Reds. Goals from the unlikely pair of John Stones and Fernandinho sealed United's fate to inflect another semi-final loss on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men. Next up for the Reds it's an FA Cup clash with Watford on Saturday.

City make it 2-0

The visitors grab a second courtesy of Fernandinho. The Brazilian rifled in a strike from outside the box after Aaron Wan-Bissaka's header clear fell into his path. It was a great shot from the City no.25 and gave Dean Henderson no hope of getting a hand to it.

Substitution
Rodri on, Mahrez off

Guardiola looks to sure things up at the back as an attacker is replaced by a defensive midfielder.
