Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
A crucial win after the international break

"Was it more about the points than the performance? Yeah, definitely, after an international break, we said it in the dressing room after, it's difficult. We've not worked together and we've waited until this morning to get the prep for this game done."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
We should have won more comfortably

"Well it's important to get the first win at home. I think a lot has been said and written about it and I think you could see towards the end we were a bit edgy that we needed to hang on to this win. We could have, probably should have, scored a couple more goals to make it an easier finish. At 1-0 you're never sure and it's a tight call both ways."

Bruno Fernandes
It's job done but we can do better

"You need to score at the first attempt. The keeper came off the line, but I'm still not happy I scored the second one because I missed the first. But we got the points, so it doesn't matter. Three points was the most important today. The job is done, but we know we can do much better, and we will do for sure."

Bruno Fernandes
I was confident I got the ball

"I felt that I touched the ball. After that was the second contact. I've not seen the image [video] but I felt I touched the ball."

Bruno Fernandes
It was all about the points

"It's really important to us, winning this game. First of all not because it's at Old Trafford, but because we need points in the league. We can do much better. We created a lot, but I think we have the quality to do much more." *speaking to BT Sport

United record first home league win

It's over at Old Trafford, where United have won 1-0, thanks to a Bruno Fernandes penalty that was scored at the second attempt, following a Sam Johnstone save that was ruled out by VAR. It wasn't a glamorous performance, but United more than deserved the three points, given the number of chances they created. Johnstone made a string of good saves too, though West Brom carved out a few chances of their own. But it's consecutive Premier League wins for the Reds, who jump up to ninth in the table, level on points with sixth-placed Everton and seventh-placed Crystal Palace.
