Wan-Bissaka: We play for each other

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is striving to help the Reds continue our current run of positive results, something he believes is down to the togetherness within the squad.

The English right-back spoke with club media this week, after playing a key role in our derby success on Saturday, and earmarked collective responsibility as the main driving factor behind our recent winning streak.

“For me, first it’s the team, you put the team first,” he said. “The team performance.

“But individually I was happy with the way I played [against City]. That always helps with the team around you.

“We’re all really together and helping each other on the pitch.”

There was a moment during the derby where Aaron displayed his attacking impetus, confidently dancing past three City defenders before passing the ball off, and then arriving on the edge of the box to unleash a strike which was deflected wide.

The Old Trafford crowd responded to this, and Wan-Bissaka says it felt good to rejuvenate our supporters and prompt them to continue roaring the Reds on.

“Yeah definitely [it was pleasing to hear the crowd cheer],” he said. “It also pushes your confidence up to continue doing what you do best.

“Obviously, that pleased the fans and led to a chance in the game, so it was a good moment.

United’s busy start to 2023 is not letting up just yet, with the Reds set to take on Crystal Palace this evening (Wednesday 18 January) in the Premier League, before locking horns with table-toppers Arsenal on Sunday.

In addition to league action, Erik ten Hag’s side face a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final versus Nottingham Forest, as well as a Europa League tie with Barcelona and an FA Cup clash with Reading.

Ahead of this jam-packed run of fixtures, Aaron shared his ambitions.

“We know with all of the games coming up that none of them will be easy, but we all go into every game with the mentality to win. I think we need to take every game, game by game with the aim of just winning.
