Onana wins Player of the Month

Andre Onana has won Manchester United's Player of the Month prize for the very first time, after an impressive March for the Cameroon keeper.

While results were fairly mixed for the Reds, from the vertigo-inducing high of our 4-3 Emirates FA Cup victory over Liverpool to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, Onana was consistent in his performances.

Our no.24 made great saves in both of those games, as well as in the 2-0 Premier League win against Everton and 1-1 draw at Brentford, in our most recent outing.

He also played a key role in the build-up to Marcus Rashford's brilliant opener at City, laying on the 'pre-assist' for Bruno Fernandes to set up our no.10 at the Etihad Stadium. That strike is up for the Premier League's Goal of the Month award.

And you voted for Andre as your best player for March, as he beat Diogo Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho to the no.1 spot in our poll.

IMPRESSIVE STATS

Onana has played every minute of our 29 league games so far and is one of just seven Premier League ever-presents in 2023/24.

According to FBRef.com, Andre saved 23 of the 30 shots on target he faced during March.

He's on 107 total saves in the top flight this season, with only Thomas Kaminski, of Luton Town, and West Ham United's Alphonse Areola making more.

Our no.1 is currently joint-second in the Golden Glove rankings, with his clean sheets total of eight being three behind David Raya, of Arsenal.

WINNERS IN 2023/24 SO FAR

Onana is the seventh Red to take home Player of the Month this term and the win comes after three nominations, with the former Ajax and Internazionale man also competing for August and October's accolades.

Our first three winners this season were all midfielders, with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Scott McTominay recognised for their performances in August, September and October respectively.

Alejandro Garnacho was a back-to-back recipient in November and December, but Onana is the third player in a row to emerge victorious for the first time, after Kobbie Mainoo (January) and Rasmus Hojlund (February).
